New Twin Falls gastropub debuts with great food and quite the view

Want an evening out with a spectacular view? Then visit Twin Falls’ brand-new gastropub, called Redhawk, which offers stunning panoramic views of Canyon Crest.

As a gastropub, Redhawk promises customers elegant and high-end foods that are also familiar. From burgers, specialty macaroni and cheese, fish, seafood and so much more, every dish is made to impress all your senses.

The gastropub takes what is typically associated with bar foods, and takes the concept to a whole new level. In addition to the finely crafted foods, visitors will find dozens of beverages on tap to choose from, including sweet cocktails, whiskeys, coffee drinks and others.

Billed as a one-of-a-kind dining destination, Redhawk pulls out all the stops to create a delicious and exciting dining experience you won’t soon forget. The restaurant may be flashy and innovative, but it is welcoming to all visitors looking for something a little extra special and out of the ordinary.

The new restaurant is neighbors with the Canyon Crest Event Center with jaw-dropping views overlooking the Snake River Canyon.

Red Hawk’s exciting menu is customized, hand-curated and always full of surprises. For starters, check out the jumbo soft pretzel that’s served with whole grain mustard, beer cheese sauce and bacon jam. Or enjoy a jumbo lump crab cake, made with fire-roasted sweet and spicy corn relish and classic remoulade. Other options to pick from are the sous vide wings, soup of the day and baked cheese, a blend of cream cheese, Boursin, shaved parmesan cheese, roasted garlic and baby spinach.

Redhawk puts together fresh and crispy craft salads, such as the wedge, crunchy cobb, classic Caesar and the arugula steak salad with marinated grilled strip steak, baby arugula, baby heirloom tomatoes, pickled red onions and sliced seedless cucumbers.

Several meals on bread are also available. The beer cheese steak Sammy, Cubano and crispy chicken thigh round out the sandwich menu. For burgers, order the Korean BBQ, loaded cheese jalapeno burger, pork belly bleu cheese or the Hawk burger, which comes with four-ounce seared beef patties, American cheese, caramelized onions, cherrywood smoked bacon and crispy pickle chips. Add an over-easy egg if you like.

For those who love mac and cheese, Redhawk is the perfect laboratory that’s cranking out unique iterations of this classic dish, such as the crab mac, cheeseburger mac, carne asada mac, four-cheese mac and the Spanish mac, which is loaded with spicy chorizo sausage, beer cheese sauce and a toasted pretzel crust.

Some of the main entrees that will likely catch your eye include the shepherd’s pie, fish and frites, seared cod, NY strip and the crab carbonara, a spaghetti mixed with hardwood smoked bacon, hardboiled egg, black pepper, parmesan sauce, lump crab and chopped parsley.

Don’t forget to leave room for dessert. Sweets include peach crumble, decadent chocolate cake, ultimate root beef and the Irish bomb.

The best fishing spots in Twin Falls

Anglers have a new fishing spot to visit within the Twin Falls area.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game invites the public to begin casting their lines at Rock Creek Canyon. The new fishing pond has been in the works for some time and is now ready for showtime. It was stocked with rainbow trout last year and another community of fish was placed there just a couple of months ago and then again in June.

Grass carp will be installed at the new recreational waterway to help keep vegetation at appropriate levels, especially during the warmer summer months. Rock Creek Park joins an impressive lineup of fishing destinations across the region.

Idaho is blessed with 26,000 miles of streams and rivers and more than 3,000 natural lakes that are packed with more than 40 game fish species.

For anglers, this is a terrific place to cast a line as opportunity is all around. Here are just a few places you should consider visiting the next time you want to head out for a fishing adventure and a chance to reel in a prize catch near Twin Falls.

Dierkes Lake is a fun place to visit – even scuba divers will venture out on this waterway. Stocked with blue gill and trout, the lake is an ideal fishing destination and a favorite among regulars.

Filer Pond is about 2.4 acres and is the larger of two adject fishing ponds. Nearby Kids Pond is open to children 12 under. Filer Pond is open year-round and is stocked with rainbow trout, and has also been occupied by largemouth bass and bluegill.

Crystal Springs Lake, which is near the Snake River, offers exciting shoreline fishing near the outflow, where activity can really pick up. If you choose, you can use a float tube for more convenient access to the rainbow trout.

Perrine Coulee features some of the more popular species, such as smallmouth bass, rainbow trout and northern pikeminnow. It’s best to head out to Perrine Coulee during the early parts of the morning, when anglers report to have the most luck reeling in a nice catch or two.

Magic Reservoir on Big Wood River is a popular destination for anglers on boats. It also has pristine shoreline access for easy casting and reeling. Head out to Magic Reservoir if you’re a beginner. You will be challenged, but are likely to drop a line and come away with brown trout, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass or yellow perch.
